2022 in Review

What a year it has been, so so busy and the time literally flew on by. A pattern I have noticed is me sitting at the start of each year and changing the website around. Even if it is just a new font and fresh cover images, it makes such difference, a breath of fresh air. (I was very remiss last year and only wrote two posts!!!) So, what have I learnt over the span of 2022?

For me the year was about taking myself and my brand out into the community. Exposure. I attended many design markets and hosted my own SALA Exhibition in an effort to reach more people with my art. I did have an outstanding time going along to the many different places across Adelaide and meeting so many beautiful people who were so appreciative of my work. It really was a ‘wow’ year. But I also discovered in doing all this travelling, that I wasn’t leaving myself enough time to actually get creative. The creative process is like anything, the more often you craft, the better your work becomes. There is a flow that comes naturally when you are doing what you love each day, and I was missing this. Painting for me is like meditation. I go somewhere very very still and think of absolutely nothing. From this place I bring back the amazing pieces you see here on the website.

It also meant that I wasn’t paying enough attention to my actual website. Crafting enough gear to have to sell at all these markets was a time consuming job (no point going if you don’t have a large cross section of your work for people to view). When you are one person doing it all, you can stretch yourself a little too far! I love my website, I love the way it looks and I have had such a wonderful time creating it via Squarespace. They really do have everything you need to create something stunningly stylish. Thankyou Squarespace. So unfortunately this area of my world has suffered. I had an amazing array of goods to sell, but no time to load them into the site.

The culmination of the year was the absolutely gorgeous Gathered night market in Handorf. The atmosphere was spectacular with all the twinkling lights and the beautiful trees everywhere. A really lovely place to end the year.

My aim for 2023 is to cut back the amount of going out to markets that I have done. I will definitely host my SALA Exhibition again and perhaps another two markets for the year. That way I will have enough time to attend to listing on the website and of course the actual creating. Happy New Year!
