This is the first of my new line of journals. I have been crafting my journals for quite a while now, so I wanted to come up with something a little different. I usually attend artisan markets on weekends and I was setup next to a woman who had made the most beautiful eco-printed clothing. I thought about it and decided I should make some really interesting eco print papers for my journals. These have been created layering leaves I have found on my walks between the papers. They are then rolled in a bundle around a wooden stick and steamed for a few hours. The imprints of the leaves transfer onto the papers creating such an interesting look and have paired super well with tea stained papers. I have selected a large round brass look clasp which I have also hand sewn onto the journal as the finishing touch.
Hand-sewn using waxed linen thread and filled with 130gsm artists cartridge paper signatures. Signatures are the individual paper books which have been sewn inside, 8 in total, each consisting of 8 folded pages. 128 leaves which will give you 256 write-able pages. I have included one piece of eco printed paper at the beginning of each signature, so 8 sheets in total. At the beginning of the journal there is a stunning black and white art print of the tree of life. I did think this was incredibly appropriate considering all the fallen leaves that had gone into creating the pages. The paper I have chosen for my journals is a premium grade fine tooth artist’s drawing cartridge paper with good erasability which I have tea stained for an old world look. Perfect for finished drawing in pen, pencil, marker, charcoal & pastel.
All of my leather hides are sourced from an Australian Tannery located in Victoria. Their philosophy is to source the best Australian hides and finishes to create the perfect product. I am extremely happy with the quality of all the leathers I have sourced from them. Where possible I like to work with the natural edging of the hide to give the journal added character. Each hide is different with many lovely quirks - holes, differing colour gradients and natural blemishes. Attached wrap around lacing closes the journal. This is a sturdy 2mm leather and is quite soft and pliable. Of course being natural leather, will be strong and durable.
This very unique and special journal can be used for the recording of all your art, precious words or dreams. The journal arrives to you packaged in a gift box crafted from recycled materials.
